When I started writing online a few years ago, I obsessed over quality.
I would spend days writing the perfect newsletter, agonize over one blog post for a week, or wait until everything felt polished before hitting publish.
Over time, I learned that there’s nothing like a perfect post. There’s no perfect video, newsletter, or email. Just create your work, put it out there, and let the audience decide if it’s good or not.
Your audience can’t fall in love with work they never see. They can’t buy from someone they’ve forgotten about. And they definitely won’t trust a stranger who shows up once a month with something to sell.
So, if you plan to make money as a creator, forget about perfection and focus on being visible.
Show up. A lot. Every day, if possible.
What happens when you stay consistently visible
When you commit to showing up regularly, three things happen that directly affect your income.
1. You build familiarity
There’s a well-known psychological principle called the mere-exposure effect.
Simply put, the more someone sees you, the more they like and trust you. It sounds almost too simple, but it’s true.
Look at any major creator online.
When they post, people engage, even if the content isn’t their best. That’s not luck.
That’s the result of years of showing up consistently until their name became familiar, trusted, and worth paying attention to.
They built that audience one post at a time, and now familiarity does a lot of the heavy lifting for them.
Your audience needs to see your name in their inbox regularly before they feel comfortable spending money with you.
2. Selling becomes easier
Most people think selling is about having the right pitch or the perfect offer.
But the truth is, selling has far more to do with trust than it does with value.
Think about your own buying habits. When you discover someone new online, and they immediately try to sell you something, what do you do? You ignore it.
But when someone you’ve been reading for months mentions a product or service? You at least consider it. You might even buy it the same day.
That’s what consistent visibility creates. It warms your audience up long before you ask them for anything.
By the time you make an offer, it doesn’t feel like a sales pitch. It feels like a natural recommendation from someone they already know.
3. Your voice gets stronger
This one is less about money and more about craft, but it matters just as much.
Every creator who has been writing, making videos, or recording podcasts for a few years has the same experience when they look back at their early work: it’s dull. Embarrassing sometimes.
But that’s exactly how it’s supposed to go.
The only way to develop a distinct, confident voice is to produce a lot of content over a long period of time.
You can’t think your way to a better writing voice. You can’t read your way there either.
You have to write your way there, post after post, newsletter after newsletter, until what felt forced starts to feel natural.
Without a consistent output, there’s no archive to look back on. And without an archive, there’s no way to measure how far you’ve come.
What this looks like in practice
You don’t have to be everywhere at once. You just have to pick your platform and commit to it.
If you’re a writer, send that newsletter every week. Write and publish blog posts consistently. Show up in people’s inboxes on a predictable schedule.
Over time, that visibility becomes your biggest advantage.
Don’t hold back waiting for a perfect post. Don’t delay until you feel ready. Just ship it, learn from it, and show up again tomorrow.
The creators making money online aren’t always the most talented.
They’re the most visible.

This was so great for me to read! I am a total perfectionist and it ABSOLUTELY keeps me from writing all the time! I also am trying to overcome my lack of confidence. So many people are SO GOOD at writing, it has become intimidating. But just you saying, basically, come as you are, warts and all, consistently! That was really helpful! Hopefully I bring less warts and more as I am (LOL), but I am encouraged to bring it!
